Since 1964, Cartonnage Lammerant, a family business, has specialised in the production and conversion of paper into corrugated board. Its production site is located in the province of Hainaut in the Walloon region of Belgium. The 50,000 m² plant features modern, high-performance production equipment.
A persistent and costly problem
At this industrial site, the presence of 500 to 1,000 birds was causing an estimated €15,000 in damage per year. This was not a seasonal problem, but a year-round one, making conventional solutions ineffective in the long term. The birds were causing a range of damage, including infrastructure deterioration, noise pollution and increased maintenance costs.
An autonomous solution: LazerTrac® LZT1000
To solve this problem, the smart and autonomous LazerTrac® LZT1000 bird repeller was installed. The aim was to disrupt the birds’ presence automatically, without the need for daily human intervention.
The laser was programmed to operate from 4pm to 9am, with a 15 minute active cycle followed by a 10 minute pause before restarting.
The zone is divided into three areas, each of which is protected by five minutes cycles. When activated, the laser follows a pattern that is automatically programmed using the ‘grid activation’ option. The perimeter of each zone is defined first, and then the system automatically generates the laser pattern, within the defined zone.
This configuration effectively and consistently disturbed the birds at night, preventing them from settling for breeding season on the site.
Immediate results
From the first night after the laser was activated, the effects were immediately visible. The birds, disturbed by the laser beam, immediately left the sensitive areas. Within a few days, the bird pressure had decreased significantly, reducing both the nuisance and the associated costs.
